The winners of the FM Innovation Awards have been announced and we are pleased to share that South Melbourne Market (SMM) won the award for the hospitality sector, as well as being awarded the OVERALL FM Innovation Award.
The FM Innovation Awards are the brain child of FM Magazine in partnership with Total Facilities, and the awards are designed to celebrate ‘the most ground breaking and innovative facility management initiatives in the industry over the preceding year’.
SUMS Group was proud to nominate South Melbourne Market’s Facility Management Team, led by Adam Mehegan, for the FM Innovation Award.
The Market has been at the same location since 1867 and has evolved into a vibrant community meeting place. Part of the challenge for the FM team has been to retain the old-world charm of the facility whilst adapting to the ever changing commercial requirements of the site. Working towards a model of community-led sustainability, inspiring and challenging suppliers, store holders, staff and customers, the FM Team has successfully introduced sustainability practices into all aspects of their daily tasks.
While the sustainability initiatives at South Melbourne Market are many, SUMS Group is proud to work with the Markets in the area of water management – monitoring common area water usage (potable and rain water), sub-metering 79 individual store holders, and finally monitoring water refill stations to illustrate the number of plastic bottles diverted from landfill.
Judged by a panel of industry experts, the FM Innovation Awards are designed to highlight the best and most innovative applications of management systems, technology and/or processes in a range of facility management sectors including education, healthcare, workspace, multi-residential and hospitality. Finally the judges award an OVERALL WINNER.
We congratulate South Melbourne Market on their environmental leadership, innovation and achievement. The Facilities Management Team has led a large number of sustainability initiatives during 2016-17, many of which have far reaching economic, environmental and social impacts.
