The City of Sydney’s Smart Green Apartments program is an award-winning free program, helping large multi-residential strata buildings become more energy and water efficient. The City is investing in twenty residential strata buildings annually over the next ten years to reduce energy and water use, improve waste management and demonstrate the sustainability potential across this sector. To date it has helped more than 200 buildings in the local government area save thousands of dollars annually on running and maintenance costs.
In recognition of our commitment to residential strata, SUMS group was successfully awarded a tender in 2016 to work with the City in the delivery of the Smart Green Apartments program. SUMS configured a comprehensive and easy-to-access data portal to all participating buildings. This allows building representatives and the City of Sydney to view historical and interval data, analyse usage patterns and identify opportunities for improvement. It also provides owners corporations with evidence of real savings obtained through implemented upgrades and operational improvements. The data portal is a key component of the City’s ongoing capacity building initiatives to create sustainability leaders within the apartments sector.
The program won the built environment category at NSW’s annual Green Globe Awards 2017.
